Reels and Carousels Do Different Jobs

“Should I do reels?” is the wrong question. The right one: what job does each format do in moving a stranger from discovering you to booking you?

Reels are the reach engine

Short-form video is how platforms introduce you to people who don’t follow you. For experts it does double duty: distribution plus familiarity, because people hire experts they feel they know. Four a month is the sustainable dose.

Carousels are the depth engine

Swipe-by-swipe frameworks and teardowns earn saves — the algorithm’s favorite signal — and get re-read the night before someone books a call. Where reels introduce, carousels convince.

The hook decides everything

Across formats, the first line does most of the work. Lead with tension: “Most coaches undercharge for the wrong reason” beats “Let’s talk about pricing.” Write ten hooks per piece, keep one.

One strong idea becomes a reel, a carousel, and a quote card — that repurposing discipline is how sixteen finished pieces come from four real ideas. Strategy guide: Reels vs. Carousels.
